Identificadores de Aplicação (IA) – GS1 128
Com o sistema de formatação GS1-128 é inserido o IA (Identificador de Aplicação). É um número no início de uma cadeia de dados para reportar à aplicação o que está a ser lido.
Por exemplo, pode codificar o peso de 35,97 kg com um código de barras padrão usando o código 3597, mas durante a leitura não somos capazes de saber se o que está ser lido é um peso, um tempo, um preço ou outra coisa. Na prática, a aplicação não é capaz de saber o que está a ler. Os Identificadores de Aplicação resolvem este problema.
As especificações GS1 definem vários IA, como números de série ou data de validade.

A tabela a seguir contém uma lista de IA válidos (Identificadores de Aplicação). Alguns IA são seguidos por um “n” ou um “y”: isto significa que o IA pode ser adicionado a um único dígito com os seguintes significados:
- n: um único dígito que indica o comprimento do campo de dados.
- y: um único dígito que indica o número de casas decimais.
