The toolbar

The toolbar runs along the top of the window. Most of its buttons open a panel in the tools panel on the left, and the button of the panel on show turns orange. The rest do their job without a panel: Copy, Paste, Delete, Undo and Redo act straight away, Add label set asks its questions in a window of its own, and Joy, Notifications, Buy and Renew show Joy, your notifications or a page of labeljoy.com.

Not sure what a button does? Rest the mouse on it for a moment to see its name, and its keyboard shortcut if it has one. While the home screen is on show, the buttons that work on a document are dimmed. Some are dimmed on a protected document too.

Documents
New document	Opens the New panel, to start a document from your default template, from the factory default, from the current layout or from a template.
Open file	Opens the Open panel, to find a document on your computer or reopen a recent one.
Save file	Opens the Save panel: save, save as, a print shortcut on the desktop, templates and passwords.
Print	Opens the Print panel.
Export	Opens the Export panel, to save your labels as a file.

Designing
Layout	Opens the Layout panel: the paper, and the labels on it.
Add label set	Adds a label set to the document. Labeljoy asks how you want it - from the default, as a copy of an existing one, or blank - and for its name and how many labels it has.
Add element	Opens the element library: double-click an element, or drag it onto the label, to add it.
Data source	Opens the Data source panel, where you connect your data and drag its fields onto the label. You can use it when the document has just one label set, or when a label set or one of its elements is selected.

Editing
Copy	Copies what's selected.
Paste	Pastes what you copied. Label elements go into the selected label set.
Delete	Deletes what's selected.

On the right
Undo, Redo	Undo or redo your last change. Rest the mouse on the button to see which change it is.
Joy	Shows or hides Joy, the AI assistant.
Settings	Opens the Settings panel: language, number and date format, units, rulers, what opens at startup, activation, network, themes and more.
Help	Opens the Help panel.
Notifications	Shows your notifications. The bell turns orange when there's something you haven't read.
Buy, Renew	You'll only see these when they apply: Buy in a demo copy, Renew when a Care+ subscription is about to expire or has expired. Each one opens the page on labeljoy.com where you can do it.
