Ultracode is a 2D barcode in color: each square is one of eight colors, so it holds more in less space than black and white. It needs a color printer, and few scanners read it - check yours before you print a batch.

| What it holds | |
| Characters | Letters, digits and symbols, and the accented letters of Western European languages - é, ü, ñ and the like. The euro sign, other alphabets and emoji don't fit: use a QR Code for those. |
| Length | Up to about 250 characters, with Automatic error correction. More error correction holds less. |
| Error correction | Automatic error correction, or EC0 to EC5. |
| Readable text | None. |
| Settings | |
| Error correction | EC0 only detects damage, it doesn't repair it; EC1 to EC5 repair more and more of it. Automatic error correction is EC2. |
| Encoding | Standard or GS1: see GS1 and HIBC data. |
Ultracode is printed in its own colors, so there's no Pen for it. Labeljoy makes the first revision of the standard, revision 1.
Characters you can't type. With Encoding set to Standard, a tilde followed by three digits is
the character with that code - ~013 is a carriage return - and ~~ is a tilde.
The rest of the settings - quiet zone, padding - are in the Barcode section.
| What goes wrong | |
| Data too long for selected error correction capacity. | The value doesn't fit an Ultracode with that Error correction: choose a lower one, or shorten the value. |
| Only Latin-1 characters, the letters of Western European languages, fit in this barcode. | The value has a character Ultracode can't hold - a euro sign, another alphabet, an emoji. |
