Labeljoy keeps a copy of your records in the document, so your labels don't change on their own when the data does. When your spreadsheet or database has moved on, update the data: Labeljoy reads it again, the same way it did when you connected it.
| Three ways to update | |
| Update data, in the Data source panel: now, for this label set. You can undo it. | |
| Update when the file is loaded | In the panel's Advanced section: every time you open the document. |
| Update before print or export | Also under Advanced: just before each print or export. Cancel the update, and the print or export stops too. |
| What an update does | |
| A program first | If you've set one under Run program, it runs before the data is read - see the Data source panel. |
| The records | Read again from the source, with the same settings. The number of labels follows. |
| Filter and sort | Stay as they were. A condition or a sort on a field the data no longer has is dropped. |
| Fields that are gone | Taken off every label, wherever you'd used them. |
| When it's done | A message says Data source updated. When the update takes a moment, a progress window shows how far it has got. |
If the source can't be read - a file that moved, a server that doesn't answer - Labeljoy says why, and keeps the records it had. With more than one label set to update, it asks whether to go on with the others.
To connect different data, click Connect data source in the panel: see the Data connection wizard.
To disconnect a label set, click Remove data source. Labeljoy asks first: Are you sure you want to remove the data source from this label set? All linked fields will be removed. Confirm, and:
| Removing a data source | |
| The records | Removed from the document, with the filter and the sort. |
| The fields on the labels | Taken off, everywhere. |
| How many labels | Back to the label set's own Number of labels, in the Label set panel. |
Removed the wrong one? Undo brings it all back. Hide this message stops Labeljoy asking; the question comes back with Restore hidden messages, in the Settings panel.
