Moving, resizing and rotating

LabeljoyNew version

Drag a selected element to move it. Drag one of the square handles on its frame to resize it, and the round handle above it to turn it. While you drag, a box shows the position, the size and the angle; Esc cancels the drag. Each drag is one step you can undo.

Keys to hold while dragging
MovingShift: across only. Ctrl: up and down only. Alt: without snapping to the grid.
ResizingShift, on a corner: keeps the proportions. Ctrl: the opposite side moves too, round the center. Alt: without snapping - and Shift or Ctrl don't snap either.
RotatingWith no key, the angle snaps to multiples of 45° when it gets close. Alt: free. Alt+Shift: snaps to 90°. Alt+Ctrl: in steps of 45°. Alt+Ctrl+Shift: in steps of 90°.

With several elements selected, each one moves, grows or turns by the same amount, round its own center. Hold Ctrl while rotating and they all take the same angle.

Snap to grid. While you drag, a grid appears over the label and the element snaps to it. The grid follows the rulers, so it gets finer as you zoom in. Switch snapping off in Settings.

With the keyboard
Shift+arrow keysMove the selection a little. The step gets finer as you zoom in.
Ctrl+arrow keysResize it: right and left make it wider and narrower, down and up taller and shorter.

The arrow keys don't snap to the grid, and a run of presses undoes in one step. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Exact values. Type the position and size in the Position part of the element's Properties, and the angle in Rotate, on the panel's strip. The other tools on the strip line elements up for you:

On the strip
Move toTo a corner or an edge of the label - or of the paper, for a page element - or Center horizontally, Center vertically, or both.
RotateType the angle, or drag the dial: it goes in steps of 15°, or of 1° with Ctrl held down. Double-click it for 0.
FitFit to width, Fit to container or Fit to height: the element fills the label that way. Labeljoy asks first if an element is rotated.
AlignLines up the selected elements with the reference - the one you selected last: left, center or right edges, top, middle or bottom. Needs at least two.
Same sizeSame width, Same width and height or Same height as the reference. Same horizontal spacing and Same vertical spacing spread three or more elements evenly.

These tools, and the Position boxes, work on locked elements too: the padlock only stops the mouse and the arrow keys.
