A Labeljoy document holds everything about a job in a single file: the paper and the labels on it, what's printed on each label, the data it's connected to, and the printer settings. It's saved as a Labeljoy file, with the extension .ljx. Open it again next month and it's just as you left it.
You can have several documents open at once, each in its own tab. The toolbar and the tools panel always work on the one on screen.
One window for all your documents. Labeljoy only ever opens one window. Double-click a document in a folder while Labeljoy is running, and it opens in a new tab of the window you already have, which comes to the front; if it's already open, Labeljoy just switches to its tab. Starting Labeljoy again brings that same window forward too. Used to Labeljoy 6, where each document had a window of its own? Here you move between documents with the tabs.
| Working with documents | |
| The New panel | Start a document: from your default template, from the factory default, from the layout you're working on, or from a ready-made template. |
| The Open panel | Open a document from your computer, or one you've used recently. |
| The Save panel | Save the document, make a template of it, or put a print shortcut on your desktop. |
| Protecting a document | A password to open it, to change it, or to print and export it. |
| The Document panel | Everything in the document at a glance, and where its file is. |
| Undo and redo | Take back a change, or put it back again. |
Unsaved changes. As soon as you change a document, a save icon shows up on its tab. Nothing is saved for you: save with Ctrl+S, with that icon, or from the Save panel. If you close a document, or Labeljoy, with changes that aren't saved, you're asked what to do first.
Templates. A template is a document you start new ones from. Labeljoy comes with templates for common jobs, and you can save any document as a template of your own, or as your default template - the one Ctrl+N starts from. See the New panel and the Save panel.
